"The One"
The weekends always fly by....and this one was no different. It seems as soon as Friday gets here, it's time to go to bed Sunday evening..
You know, it's so important to find "the one" in life. Which is so fitting since that has been mine and Chris' song since 2002( My brother-in-law sang it at our wedding :) But really, life isn't always about how much money you have, or how many vacations you can take, or what kind of cars we drive. It's about being able to spend TIME together just talking and learning more about each other and helping when the other needs help..
This weekend was great. Saturday morning, Chris and I ran some errands and then for the remainder of the afternoon I was outside "on a boat" ( sitting on a boat he needs to repair) while Chris was fixing a blown-up ski. (Chris works on blown-up skis and repairs during the summer after work.) We talked and just enjoyed the afternoon. We washed the ski, took it out to test it, dropped it off at his parents' house to sell, and then we came home and I fixed chicken wings. I was very proud of myself. I got the recipe from "Giada at Home"-one of my favorite shows- and I made homemade sauce and cooked the wings. Chris said they were great-which coming from Chris is a compliment and since wings are one of his favorites, I was proud of myself :)
Sunday was another beautiful, but chilly day. Church was very enjoyable and so were our sandwiches we ate at home afterward while we watched HGTV. We decided to take a trip out to the new house just to look. And then, of course, with more ideas, we ventured to Home Depot. Might I say that our master bathroom is going to be gorgeous! I mean REALLY! :) We picked out the tilework, the paint, the bubble/massage tub, the toilet, the vanity and sink. We'll have tilework all around the face of the tub and glass instead of a shower curtain. I am SO excited. It'll feel like a real master bath! And surprisingly, it was the easiest room we've ever picked out! We went to Cracker Barrel at 4:45 ( I REALLY had to twist Chris' arm to go so early because he NEVER eats that early. But I insisted we should save gas and not come into town twice. I mean we were passing by Cracker Barrel after Home Depot anyway. How convenient :) We watched Catch Me If You Can and then we watched Shooter and headed to bed.
It was all wonderful :) And all because I have chosen the RIGHT "one" to spend all of my time with. Even if it's just hanging around while he works on skis, or riding all around just to "look" at land, or picking out our master bath for the new house :) We have the best of times when we're together <3

Donuts
As I was eating a donut today, I started to think of things I would miss if Chris and I ever moved. I mean, we're happy where we are and most all of our family lives within 5-15 minutes of us. I've lived here all my life and Chris has been here for the past 9 years. But I'm not opposed to moving somewhere different at some point in our lives. But back to the donut, I started thinking how the donuts around here are better than any I've ever tasted. I mean, Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme don't hold a candle to the donuts around here.. and therefore started my thinking of what I would miss if we ever were to move.
*Both of our families
*Our church
*The Donut Shop
*The Lake
*The quietness that comes with living in the country
*Bojangles
*The small gas stations that used to be referred to as "country stores"
*The small town traffic ( I don't think I could EVER live in a city!)
I'm sure there are tons of others..but those are standing out to me right now.

Shoes
So as you read this, keep in mind that I work at a frame shop where sweatshirts are completely appropriate and from a girl that loves flats while my sister, Lindsey, works from home (and sometimes from her husband's gas station) and loves to wear heals.
Me: You'd be proud of me. I'm wearing wedges to work today!
Lindsey: I'm wearing stilettos at the store. I'm so proud :)
Yes, we are pathetic.

Patience
...has been a very hard thing for me lately. So many things have been happening and it seems too quick and not quick enough all at the same time. We have the inspection and appraisal done on the new house and now we're waiting.......waiting......waiting.....WAITING for the sellers to accept the contract. We've gotten good news, such as the seller asking for the realtors' license number so that they can get commission and for the seller agent to put the house under "pending" meaning the contract is being drawn up and signed by the seller but still NO confirmation! It's definitely testing my patience. I mean this has gone on for 3 weeks now! I always try and remind myself that I'm not in control and that God's Will will be done regardless of what I want. So I know that if we're meant to buy this next house, we will! When I say moving too quickly, I catch myself enjoying the front porch more and more and just sitting in the different rooms of our house..home...and staring at the walls. We've put a lot of sweat and tears..(and maybe some blood of Chris'-that sounds gross) into this house. It's been a lot of hard work but so worth it! I can't tell you how many people have complimented us on how well we've done with this place...I love this place. It was my first home as a married woman. My second home ever...Now we'll be moving on (we hope) but this will always be such a special place to Chris and me...so as I start to tear up, I'll finish this one up and go clean up the dishes from supper. Pancakes and bacon..yum :)

A weekend of birthdays!
What a weekend.
Chris and I had a lazy Friday. We watched a very dumb movie but we both somehow enjoyed it. Old Dogs.
Birthday x 2.
Saturday was filled with family, cake, steaks, winery, guns, and a great 55th birthday party for Trish. All of the Bartons were able to get together and enjoy the beautiful weather and each other's company. It was the normal, back porch sitting kind of weekend when we're all able to get together. I find that some of my favorite times are on my in-laws back porch. We were blessed with beautiful sunshine all day and temps nearing 80! We all complained about our lily white legs and hoped they wouldn't be like that for long! The winery was beautiful. The views make it feel like you're nowhere near SH, VA!
After the winery, the guys decide to shoot the shotgun at 2 old jetskis for awhile leaving marks on their arms from the kickback. Greg was nice enough to come to VA with Lauren and Mike. He was the chef for the night :) The steaks he grilled for dinner were close to La Cantina( Lock & Tina-haha) steaks...if not better! And the potato casserole. OHHH the potato casserole. I knew there was another reason I love being a Barton! :) We end with lemon cake and presents. GREAT day at the Barton house!
Sunday was Daddy's birthday. We had dinner at Brian's and cupcakes at Lindsey and Michael's house. McKayla was so sweet. As usual! Although we always have to tease him about his unbelievable amount of chest hair and the lack thereof on his head, It's always nice to be with Daddy.
So Happy Birthday to Trish and Daddy. We love you!

Sick day..
So today didn't exactly go as planned. I woke up feeling nauseous and I felt like that all day. So I didn't go to work and I didn't have my second birthday dinner with the rest of the family :( What sucks more than canceling your own party? boo. Here are a few pics from my birthday dinner last night. Whoever wasn't there was supposed to come tonight so hopefully we can reschedule!
In happier news, the weather is supposed to be awesome for the rest of the week. Yeah, I'm talking upper 60's mid 70's! I'm so ready to pull out the flippy floppys! Speaking of good weather, it's supposed to be a beautiful day on Saturday for Trish's big birthday :) I'm hoping all of the family will be in Ebony and it'll be a great time! I can't wait.
I haven't explained much what's going on with the house since I just started my blog. So! We have a house under contract out near Chris' parent's house. In fact, both houses layouts are almost identical! It's a 5 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath with 8 (yes EIGHT) fireplaces. The crown moulding in this house is to die for. If everything goes smooth( so far so good!), we should close around the last week in April! I am beyond excited. We'll be jumping from a 1300 sq. ft. house to an over 3000 sq. ft. house! WooHoo! The only downside..CLEANING will be almost triple! But with this house, we're looking at having to do the FUN things. The last owner came through and renovated the entire place. We're talking new heating and air, new window and doors, new drywall, crown moulding, new bathrooms, new vinyl outside. I mean everything! But, we get to put in a new kitchen and new master bath and other than that we paint the 300,000,000 rooms! The yard needs some work but hey, for almost 9 acres of land, I can get my hands dirty. It'll be so much fun. So if all works out, there will be many home depot trips, lots more money in gas, packing up our first home, and probably even some more tears ( Yes, I have already cried about leaving our first home..) But I am SO excited to start this next adventure with my husband! It's going to be such a beautiful house!

Happy Birthday to ME!
Yes, that's right. It's my birfday. Chris and I are the same age for the next 29 days.
It was definitely a good one. For starters, my husband wakes me up like he always does and tells me Happy Birthday :). I wake up (after I fell back asleep) to my Lauren calling ( we have double names in the family so I have to distinguish which is which) to say "Happy Birthday Twiggers" ( yes, that is her nickname for me). I then get a call from Mama, Lindsey, and Daddy. Chris and I go to pick out our cabinet options and then a birthday lunch at Wendy's :) The day at work went by fast(heck I didn't get there til 12:30!) I get home and realize Chris is still not here (and I remember he probably ran to Wal-Mart to get my card). He comes home(from Wal-Mart:) and gives me a great card...probably the best one ever and then hands me the inspection we got done today for the new house(which went VERY well!) and says Happy Birthday(a $450 birthday gift ain't too shabby! especially since he gave me my gift about 2 weeks ago!) I get a call from my sister-in-law, Lauren. Her and Mike gave me a pizelle maker!! woohoo!!! We conclude with dinner at Mexican with Mama, Chris, Lindsey, Bill and Trish. They secretly say it's my birthday so I get the embarrassing hat picture and a (free) dessert:)
Birthday will continue tomorrow with another dinner with more family. I love my life.

Busy weekend
The weekends always fly by way too quick. This one was no exception but we did get a lot accomplished.
Friday we had to go to a visitation for my friend's grandfather...then we went to Applebees where I got dessert for dinner-I had cereal before the visitation :)
Saturday Chris and I decided to take it easy for a bit so we watched Law Abiding Citizen-crazy. We drove out to C's parent's house for awhile to visit with Lindsay since she's home for spring break and then we went out to the new house(we have put in a contract and waiting for inspection and appraisal!) to take measurements for the kitchen. We went to Homey Depot to pick out more paint colors and to design our kitchen. We finally get home around 5:30 when we are about to eat dinner and settle in for the night when we get a call from the guy on craigslist and tells us he still has his furniture for sale. We had called about a guest bedroom set for the new house. So we drive down to Cary, NC to pick up the furniture(which was a STEAL and only a year old!) then we go to Target(my favoriteee) and buy bedding and a matching bathroom set for our new guest bedroom. :) We pull in the drive at 12:00am. We're pooped.
Sunday is the usual - church and another trip to Homey Depot! By the way, our kitchen design is to die for and yes, we will be "simplifying" but it'll still be great! :) We cave in and go to Bojangles' (we're pitiful) and then come home and watch The Time Traveler's Wife. wow. Good movie. Glad it doesn't happen in real life!
So, once again another weekend has come and gone too fast and it's Monday..but at least it's my birthday :)

Friday Night
Most 22 year olds spend their Friday nights out..whether that be on a date, at a party, at a bar, at the movies, out with friends, or wherever else. I spend my Friday nights in with my husband :) I've never been the big "party" girl and I've always stayed mellow but I feel like I've aged 10 years since I've been married. But to me, that's a good thing! Everyone always asks why we got married so young. Well, why wait when you've already found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with? I mean we have liked each other since I was 14 and been dating since I was 15! I see it as getting started early. Having the chance to be young and married is great. We'll have kids younger and we'll get to kick them out sooner :) I realize how lucky I am tonight as I watch Chris fall asleep at 9:30.. :)
Happy Friday Night!
Happy Friday Night!
Something New
So, this is new to me. I'll warn you now, you probably won't find much interest in my day-to-day life, but this is it and it makes me happy.
So a little introduction.
I'm Leslie. I'll be 23 on Monday, the 15th(woohoo!) I married my high school sweetheart in August of '08. We both graduated from JMU December of '08. We moved back home into our newly renovated house and here we are in 2010.
I work at a Frame Shop my grandma owns. I've worked there since I was 16..wow. It's like a 2nd home.
We have 2 cats.
Ok. I can already see this being a problem. I'm going to be late for work if I don't stop running my mouth. So, I'll see you soon!
